Don't forget your picnic basket to enjoy a snack in the countryside. In the cosy harbour of Hjarbæk, special dinghies - Sjægten - lie gurgling on the quay. The annual Sjægten Sailing World Championships are held here in week 33. Next to the harbour is a child-friendly beach with fine white sand. Away from the paradisiacal conditions for water sports, your children can spend many hours here building sandcastles and collecting shells and stones on the beach. Experience picturesque sunsets that colour the sky and the sea gold. The area around Hjarbæk Fjord is a wildlife reserve with otters, herons, kingfishers, bats and seals.
You can also take a trip to the Hjerl Hede open-air museum, which is transformed into a living museum with workshops and kitchens during the summer months. A 10-minute drive will take you to the Hjarbæk Fjord Golf Centre, which has an interesting and varied 27-hole course laid out in 3 x 9 holes. You can also visit the old provincial town of Viborg, with the cathedral church as a special landmark, or Skive, where you can sail in old wooden ships or visit castles, manor houses and museums. Last but not least, the Mønsted lime pits and Daugbjerg are also very interesting excursion destinations.
